The Black Oak
I was asked to interpret the concept of Urban Sprawl in the modern context, when the city center and outskirts fuse, making interpersonal encounters ever more negative. I reflected on one of the dynamics that used to serve as a direct source of socializing: the accordion. My mother told me how in the past, all it took was for one person in town to own an instrument, and a space transformed instantly into a dance hall. So I decided to o er the same experience on the inaugural day, unbeknown to passersby who happened to find themselves involved in this moment of communion. Two street artists took part in the installation: Pamela as accordionist, and Davide as storyteller. The name of the group is La Quercia Nera – e Black Oak, from which the entire performance took its title.
